Underground warning tapes are coloured polyethylene tapes printed with a warning message to identify underground pipes and cables to Australian and New Zealand Standards. Underground marker tape should be laid over underground services halfway between the service and the surface in the trench so that a warning can be given before any damage to the service is caused during an excavation.
