1. Meaning of personal information

Personal information is information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable, whether or not the information is true or recorded in a material form.

2. Personal information we collect

The kinds of personal information we may collect and hold depend on how you interact with us and may include:

  • Order and transaction information: products purchased, quotations, invoices, returns, warranties, delivery instructions, collection details and transaction history.
  • Payment information: payment method, payment status, transaction references and limited payment details. Payment card details may be collected directly by a secure third-party payment provider rather than stored by us.

  • Fraud and security information: information used to verify transactions, prevent fraud, secure accounts and investigate suspected misuse.
  • In-store information: CCTV images and attendance or collection records where cameras or verification processes operate at our premises.

We do not generally seek to collect sensitive information. If sensitive information is reasonably necessary for our functions, we will collect and handle it only as permitted by law, including obtaining consent where required.

Where lawful and practicable, you may interact with us anonymously or using a pseudonym. However, we generally need accurate identifying and contact information to process orders, provide delivery, administer accounts, assess credit, prevent fraud or respond to account-specific enquiries.

If you do not provide information that we reasonably require, we may be unable to process an order, deliver products, create an account, assess a trade-account application or provide the requested service.

4. How we use personal information

  • complying with legal, regulatory, taxation, accounting and reporting obligations.

We may also use or disclose information for another purpose where you have consented or where permitted or required by law.

5. Cookies, analytics and tracking technologies

Our website, mobile application and electronic communications may use cookies, software development kits, tags, pixels and similar technologies. Depending on their configuration, these technologies may collect technical and usage information such as your IP address, device identifiers, pages viewed, products searched for, cart activity and interactions with advertisements or messages.

We use these technologies to:

  • operate essential website, account, cart and checkout functions;
  • remember preferences and maintain security;
  • understand how our website and application are used;
  • measure and improve performance; and
  • deliver and measure advertising, where permitted.

Some analytics, advertising and social-media providers may combine information collected through our services with information they hold about you. Their handling of information is also governed by their own privacy policies.

You may be able to manage non-essential cookies through our cookie controls, your browser settings or the relevant provider's opt-out tools. Blocking certain cookies may affect website functionality. Where required, we will provide an appropriate collection notice or choice when these technologies collect personal information.

6. Who we disclose personal information to

We may disclose personal information, where reasonably necessary, to:

  • payment gateways, banks and fraud-prevention providers;
  • website, ecommerce, mobile-app, cloud-hosting, data-storage and IT-support providers;
  • delivery, freight, postal, warehousing and logistics providers;
  • email, SMS, marketing, analytics, advertising, survey and customer-review providers;
  • manufacturers, suppliers, repairers and warranty administrators;
  • credit-reporting, identity-verification, debt-recovery, legal, accounting and professional advisers;
  • our employees, contractors and related companies who need the information to perform their duties;
  • a purchaser, adviser or participant in a proposed or completed sale, merger, restructure or transfer of our business or assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections;
  • government agencies, regulators, courts, tribunals and law-enforcement bodies where required or authorised by law; and
  • other parties with your consent or at your direction.

We do not sell personal information as a standalone commercial product.

7. Overseas disclosures

Some of our technology, cloud, ecommerce, mobile-app, analytics, marketing and support providers may store, process or access personal information outside Australia. The countries in which overseas recipients are likely to be located include the United States of America and Canada. Provider locations may change, and information may also be handled in other countries identified in a provider's privacy policy or notified to you at the time of collection.

Before disclosing personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps required by the Privacy Act to ensure that the recipient handles the information consistently with the APPs, unless an exception applies.

8. Direct marketing

Where permitted by law, we may use your contact details and information about your dealings with us to send product updates, offers, event information, review requests and other marketing by email, SMS, telephone, post, online advertising or through our mobile application.

We send commercial electronic messages only where we have the consent required by law, which may be express or inferred depending on the circumstances. Our electronic marketing identifies the sender and provides a functional unsubscribe facility.

You may opt out at any time by:

  • using the unsubscribe link in an email;
  • replying REMOVE or STOP where that option is provided in an SMS;
  • changing your account or app notification preferences; or
  • contacting us using the details below.

We will action an electronic-marketing unsubscribe request within the period required by law. Opting out of marketing does not prevent us from sending service messages reasonably necessary for an order, account, safety notice, recall or other transaction.

9. Automated tools

We may use automated tools to assist with fraud detection, account security, stock and service administration, analytics and marketing personalisation. Where an automated process is used in connection with a decision that could significantly affect your rights or interests, we will provide the information and safeguards required by applicable privacy law.

10. Security and data breaches

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These measures may include access controls, authentication, encryption where appropriate, secure payment providers, system monitoring, backups, staff procedures and provider due diligence.

No internet transmission or storage method is completely secure. You should protect your account credentials, use a strong and unique password and notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorised activity.

We maintain processes for responding to suspected data breaches. Where a breach is likely to result in serious harm and the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme applies, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required by law.

11. Retention and destruction

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, to resolve disputes, enforce agreements and meet legal, accounting, taxation and recordkeeping obligations. Retention periods vary depending on the information and the applicable requirements.

When personal information is no longer required and we are not legally required to retain it, we take reasonable steps to destroy it securely or de-identify it.

12. Access and correction

You may request access to personal information we hold about you or ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading.

Contact our Privacy Officer using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before actioning a request. We will respond within a reasonable period and, where practicable, provide access in the manner requested.

In some circumstances, the Privacy Act permits us to refuse access or correction. If we refuse a request, we will generally provide written reasons and explain available complaint options where required. We do not charge for making a request, although the law may permit a reasonable charge for providing access in some circumstances.

You may also ask us to delete information. We will take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it where it is no longer required and we are not required or authorised to retain it. Australian privacy law does not provide an absolute right to deletion in every circumstance.

13. Privacy complaints

If you believe we have mishandled your personal information or breached the APPs, please send a written complaint to our Privacy Officer using the details below. Include enough information for us to understand and investigate your concern.

Our website or application may contain links to third-party websites, applications or services. We do not control those third parties and are not responsible for their privacy practices. Review the relevant third party's privacy policy before providing personal information.

15. Children

Our online purchasing and trade-account services are intended for people aged 18 years and over. We do not knowingly seek to collect personal information from children through those services. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us without appropriate authorisation, please contact us.

16. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to our information-handling practices, technology or legal obligations. The updated Policy will be published on our website with a revised effective date. Material changes will be communicated by an appropriate additional method where required.
